Welcome to The Cabot Lodge School School
Located outside the posh enclave of Washington, Connecticut, The Cabot Lodge School prides itself on being one of the highest-performing boarding schools in the nation, rivalling the more attention-grabbing Exeter and Andover for the ultimate bragging rights: Ivy League admittance percentages.
From the type of students it admits to the educational philosophy it adheres to, the mission of Cabot Lodge has always been to find, encourage and cultivate a moral student body. That said, students are expected to live up to the school's motto, "Dum vivimus vivamus" ("While we live, let us live"), putting themselves out into the universe both mentally and physically, exploring the things they don't know with curiosity and compassion, while mastering the things they do know with the intent to pass along their expertise to others.
The Cabot Lodge Educational Philosophy
What makes The Cabot Lodge educational philosophy different from other schools is its adherence to The Harkness Method of teaching, in which a teacher and a group of students gather around an oval table, working together and exchanging ideas and information.
This format brings a level of involvement and inclusion that gets lost in the traditional “teacher-at-the-front-of-the-class/students-in-their-desks” dynamic.
The best example of The Harkness Method style of teaching can be found in Shuttlesworth's most popular class: Credo.
Credo noun (pl) -dos
1. any formal or authorized statement of beliefs, principles, or opinions
2. the most popular class at The Cabot Lodge School.
